How We Are Kenya uses Donations
We Are Kenya is committed to ensuring that donations go straight to Kenya to handle the costs of caring for the children at Vision Link School. While there are some unavoidable operating costs here in the U.S., our organization is operated solely by volunteers who receive no compensation for services. We strive to keep our costs as low as possible in order to do as much as possible for the kids. It is our goal to provide ongoing transparency through updated financial information.

95.08%
Used for Direct Needs in Kenya
This includes food, housing, teacher’s salaries, school supplies, creation of a well, medical needs, purchase of a van and ATM fees. As of 12/31/19, the 95.08% is broken down as such: 37.73% went to food, 15.47% went to the purchase of property for the current school and our new secondary school, 15.62% went to teacher’s salaries, 13.18% went to school needs like renovations, medical needs, and school supplies, 4.38% went to the digging of a well, 2.99% went to ATM fees, and 5.71% went to the purchase and maintenance of a school van.
2.12%
Used for Professional Fees
The majority of this expenditure occurred as we started the non-profit in 2008. This included attorney fees and fees paid to the government and state to obtain our non-profit status. In the future, this percentage will decrease as the only fees on a recurring basis being paid will be to accountants for year-end filings and to renew our fundraising licenses in different states. We do not pay any fees to professional fundraisers.
2.8%
Used for USA-based Expenses
The majority of these expenses are for our online giving fees (monthly fees paid to the online giving service provider), website fees, and supplies (printing, shipping, etc). We do not pay any salaries to those working in the USA. (and even some of these costs are either subsidized or provided by volunteers within the organization, to keep this number low)
These percentages encompass the time between January 1, 2008 through December 31, 2019.
Profit & Loss Statement: January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022.
Your generosity
will make a lasting impact.
Having purchased the land just outside of the city, not far from our primary school, many preparations have been occurring the past few years so it can be used for our secondary school and technical training center. Our next step is to get a deed for the last portion of the property, to ensure the property is secured. A one-time gift, and sustainable monthly gift, will greatly help as we strive towards this goal.
